Who am I?
My name is Darya. I was born and raised in Canada in a family of engineers. In high school I realized that hard sciences were not my forte, and that a creative life was calling me.
I have an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies and French Studies from York University in Toronto, Canada. I am currently following a web development course through the New York Code + Design Academy in Amsterdam. I plan to pursue a Master of Science in Communication Science at the University of Amsterdam in 2017.
Currently, I am on break from school – not by choice. In September 2015 I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). This is a blood cancer, but in my house we call it the C word. To learn more about the disease, you can visit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Life kind of stopped when that happened and turned into a literal fight for my life. I endured very harsh chemo and received a Stem Cell Transplantation. I was really lucky to have a same-sex sibling match. Not all patients are so lucky. To learn more about stem cell transplantation and how to register as a donor, you can visit Be The Match.
Today, I am proud to say I am cancer free and ready to live my life again. Part of living again has been to create and curate content about the things I am passionate about and know. Expect to find content about writing, staying organized, cool tech things, and maybe even some webdev throughout the site!
